Our Policies
- You must be 18 years of age to adopt or have a legal guardian's consent. Legal guardian must be present to sign Adoption Contract.
- If you rent, We will verify the pet policy with your landlord/institution. If living with a roommate/family everyone in the household must consent. We will not place our rats in a situation where we feel they would be in danger or threatened.
- We reserve the right to refuse or deny adoption of any rat for any reason.
- Babies will be available to go to their new homes no sooner than 7 weeks of age, depending on the litter and line.
- Rats will NOT be sold as singles. They must be sold in, at least, same sex pairs. No exceptions.
- Rats will not be adopted to a home that has the opposite sex. This means that if you own females, you will only be able to adopt females.
- We do NOT sell Feeders.
- Rats are NOT to be used for breeding, for any purpose, unless otherwise specified.
- A 50% non-refundable non-transferable deposit is required to reserve via PayPal. The Deposit will be expected at time of reservation, once deposit is received rats will be placed on reserve in your name. Deposits will be deducted from the adoption fee.
- Once we contact you to schedule pickup, you will have 48 hours to respond to us. We will give you another message. This time we will give you 24 hours to reply back to us. If we still do not hear from you, your deposit will not be returned and the rats will be readopted. You may adopt one more time from us (place another deposit) and if you repeat the no response, you will no longer be allowed to adopt from Kinni Brook Rattery.
- We aren’t a “Made to Order.” We plan our pairings based on what will better our lines.
- We are “First come, First serve” for new adopters. If you are interested in joining our Kinni Brook family, we suggest becoming an Approved Adopter as soon as you can. Adoptions open up at the date/time specified. Please be aware that Approved Breeders and Previous Adopters have priority before New Adopters.
- We want to be notified if you ever feel like you can no longer keep your rats for whatever reason. It breaks our hearts to find our babies being sold on social media, Craiglist, or other platforms. Please, contact us first. Most of the time we can take our babies back, but if you have rats from other locations, due to bio-security, we cannot take our rats back. We will, however, ask that you give us a short temperament description, some nice photos, and we can home them through the FB page and/or the website. All adopters will go through the approval process and then we will send them your way to complete the Homing process. We always hope that our rats will stay with their forever home, but we do understand that things happen that is out of our control.
CLOSED RATTERY
Like most ratteries we are a Closed Rattery, this means that we do not allow outside individuals into OUR HOME. This is done for a couple of different reasons, primarily to ensure the safety of our rats and integrity of our breeding lines. The amount of pathogens that one can bring into a home, that ill affect rats, are astronomical. [Mites/lice, allergens, illnesses, ect]. Another reason is that, although we'd love to trust everyone, the world we live in as a whole is not always honest. We have heard many a horror story from Open [now Closed] Ratteries of possessions or even beloved family pets being stolen by individuals they invited into their homes. We hope that you understand that this is not anything against you personally, but that we feel it is best to err on the side of caution.
