The Adoption Process
The process is just to be sure our babies will be well taken care of and loved once they leave our Rattery.
ADOPTION POLICY AND ADOPTION CONTRACT
First, please look over our policies and read the Adoption Contract. Read them carefully! If you don’t agree by any of it, then your questionnaire will be rejected.
THE QUESTIONNAIRE
The questionnaire is required to be filled out by anyone who is looking to adopt from Kinni Book Rattery. Not only is it for us to be sure our babies will be well taken care of, but your answers also help us to find the perfect match of ratties for your needs. It’s also a great time to ask any questions for us to answer before reservations.
The questionnaire does ask for a photo of the cage. NO STOCK PHOTO. To assure that photos are genuine and YOUR CAGE, please place a handwritten note in the photo that includes the date and a drawing of a rat.
We have every right to refuse or deny adoption of any rat for any reason.
AFTER APPROVAL
Once the questionnaire is completed and we make the decision to approve you, then you may choose from the Available ratties.
Please Note: We DO NOT adopt singleton rats. I understand if you may have rats at home, but rats thrive on companionship and babies thrive on having a friend that is around their age. It also goes toward older bonded pairs that are being homed. They have spent their time together, being placed into a new environment can be very stressful and very strange. They thrive with a friend to cuddle, play, groom, and just socialize. It makes the change much easier. Unless you are an approved breeder.
We aren’t a “Make to Order” or a “Build-a-Rat.” We plan our pairs based on what will better our lines.
We are a “First Come, First Serve,” If you are interested in joining our Kinni Brook family, we suggest becoming an approved adopter as soon as possible.
We usually wait till babies are around 4-6 weeks to choose our keepers (We always pick first,) then other approved breeders and previous adopters...then New Approved Adopters. It varies when rats will become available because each line and litter are treated individually. Some litters are easier to decide versus others. We want to be sure ratties and people are happy.
We often hear, "Why do you always keep the better ones?" I know....You fall in love with a ratto in a litter and realize, it's not available. We generally have to hold rats back to better our lines. If we didn't hold any back...we can't breed rattos in the future. Hopefully we can breed more that look similar to the one you have fallen in love with!!
We will make an announcement on our website and on Facebook 24 hours before rats will be going on Availability to make it as fair as possible. That is Twenty-Four Hours!
Rats must be reserved in, at least, Same sex pairs. No exceptions. Rats will not be adopted to a home that has the opposite sex unless one or the other is altered prior to leaving Kinni Brook Rattery. This means that if you own females, you will only be able to adopt females, unless willing to have males neutered. Unless an approved breeder.
We DO NOT sell feeders.
Rats that are PET ONLY are not to be used for breeding, for any purpose, unless otherwise specified.
DEPOSIT
Once you have chosen your same sex pair, or more, we will require a 50%, non-refundable and non-transferable, Deposit of the total to reserve. We will give you our link for PayPal. Keep note that our Rattery email IS NOT the correct PayPal. The Deposit is expected at time of reservation. Once deposit is received, Rats will be placed on reserve in your name. Deposits are deducted from the total adoption fee.
PICK UP / DELIVERY
At this time, all ratties go home in a cardboard carrier. This has been working out so well for homing that it'll probably stick around. You are welcomed to bring your own carrier. We do offer homemade carriers for $15. They come in very handy during traveling and cage cleanings. Please give us a week in advance though as they take time to make...
Babies are ready to go home no earlier than 7 weeks of age.
When babies are about 6 weeks old, or about a week prior to go home, we will contact you to set up a location, date, and time for pickup/delivery.
Once we contact you, you will have 48 hours to respond to us. We will give you another message. This time we will give you 24 hours to reply back to us. If we still do not hear from you, your deposit will not be returned and the rats will be readopted. You may adopt one more time from us (place another deposit) and if you repeat the "no response," you will no longer be allowed to adopt from Kinni Brook Rattery.
We are a CLOSED RATTERY.
This is our home and we prefer to meet in public places. We are not a pet store. We do this to keep our family safe, our rats safe, and the integrity of our breeding lines.
We try to be as open as our schedule allows us so that we can meet with adopters and be sure our rats get to their forever homes. We have four human children as well so schedules also have to mix with theirs. We will be courteous and contact you if we are running late/early, We expect the same in return. There are many ways to contact us...Facebook and email is our main one.
